MARYA MAZOR’s career as a director has taken her from theater to immersive experiences, to film and digital tv series. Her 2024 production of the Laurents Hatcher Prize winning play The World is Not Silent is now playing in a hit production at The Alley Theater in Houston. She recently directed the critically acclaimed Eight Nights for The Detroit Public Theatre, as well as workshops at New York Stage & Film Company and Geva. Her 2020 production of Fun Home won the Los Angeles Ovation Award for Best Production of a Musical and the OC Theatre Guild Award for Best Direction. Her many Los Angeles productions have received multiple LA Times Critic's Pick designations and Ovation Awards and nominations. Other productions include Donald Margulies' The Model Apartment for The Geffen Playhouse; Ivy & Bean at South Coast Repertory Theatre; Tribes at The Chance Theater (OC Register Best Play 2017);The Rescued at The Road Theater Company (Stage Raw Award Nominee); Out of Our Father's House for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, That Pretty Pretty... or the Rape Play at Son of Semele; Mad Forest at the Open Fist; The English Bride at the Road; and The Goat (OC Weekly Best Play). She also directed the Broadway scale Aladdin for the Disney Cruise Lines. Her award-winning digital series Sophie in Hollywood is now streaming on Asian American Movies.
Mazor was selected as an AFI Directing Workshop for Women fellow; her short film, written by Oscar-nominee José Rivera, was lauded at festivals worldwide including ComiCon and Rhode Island International. She began her career as founding Artistic Director of Voice & Vision theatre in New York City. She is the recipient of the National Endowment of the Arts TCG Fellowship and holds an MFA from the Yale School of Drama. Marya has taught at the University of Southern California, University of California Irvine, Fordham University, and Chapman University.
